ESP810 Main

When it comes to creating custom duplex solutions, ESP is the industry leader. The ESP “H” pattern solutions give you the ability to use 2 printers for simplex applications or simply convert to a duplex operation quickly, without tools and without moving any equipment. With three different “H” pattern solutions available, you can count on ESP to make the most of duplex printing systems.

ESP810 “H1” Pattern Duplex Solution

ESP810 H1

The patented ESP810 H1 places the two printers with the operator panels facing each other. This solution keeps the operators work area between the two printers. The output from each printer is at opposite ends when running in simplex mode. When in duplex mode, the input and output are on the same end of the system.

ESP820 “H2” Pattern Duplex Solution

ESP820 H2

The ESP820 H2 configuration allows printers to be placed so that the workflow moves in one direction. With the pre- and post- processing equipment at opposite ends. This solution provides better workflow in data centers with multiple duplex printing systems.

ESP830 “H3” Pattern Duplex Solution

ESP830 H3

The ESP830 H3 solution can be set-up for simplex highlight color or standard duplex printing. The ESP830 H3 works exactly like the ESP820 H2 solution with the additional ability to print side “A” on printer one in one color and send side “A” into printer two to add a highlight color.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

  • Three distinct solutions
    • ESP810 H1 for standard duplex processing
    • ESP820 H2 for standard duplex processing
    • ESP830 H3 for duplex black and white and highlight color applications
  • Easily converted – from simplex to duplex operation without moving equipment.
  • Compact design – footprint can be as small as 20′ x 30′, including the pre- and post- processing equipment.
  • Diamond plate bridge – Covers the paper path, allowing the operator to walk over the system.
  • Air pump – For turnbars. Helps reduce paper drag and static build-up.

Ibis Bindery Systems SB-1 Plus, SB-2 Plus, SB-3 Plus, SB-4 Plus, SB-5 Plus, PB-600S, PB-600C and PB-2000J Product Spotlight

Looking for a binding solution for your production environment? Contact Symco Group today to learn more about the IBIS SB and PB series of bindery systems at 800-878-8002 or email us at info@symcogroup.com.

Ibis Smart Binding (SB) Series:

Ibis Saddle Binder

The Smart-binder system using individual sheet folding before collection together on the saddle, which results in excellent lay-flat even up to 200 pages. The Smart-binder may be supplied in-line with a digital cut-sheet printer (SB-1 model) or in-line with a digitally-printed CF paper web (SB-2, 3, 4 or 5) at speeds up to 180 metres/min (590 feet/min). Alternatively, it may be supplied in off-line form using an integrated sheet pile feeder which can be loaded with sheets from multiple digital printers

The Smart-binder models SB-1 and SB-2 produce wire stitched (stapled) booklets only up to 10mm (0.4″) thick. The SB-1 is a lower speed version of the SB-2, for use in-line with slower speed digital printers. The Smart-binder model SB-3 includes IBIS’s patented ‘ISG’ (Individual Sheet Gluing) technology. ISG replaces wire-staples with lines of cold-glue ‘dots’ between each sheet to produce more attractive, stronger, flatter and easier-to-recycle books.

The extended model SB-X allows production of A5 (or 5 ½ x 8 /12”) ‘portrait’ booklets 2-up, by increasing the maximum booklet spine length to 457mm.The extended model SB-XW allows production of Tabloid sized newspapers 430 mm × 280 mm (16.9” × 11.0 “)

The Smart-binder models SB-4 and SB-5 add an additional ‘perfect-binder’ module to produce high-quality perfect-bound books.

For the first time ever, both wire-stitched or glued books may now be produced from the same machine. In this way the Smart-binder provides a solution for multiple different book types and formats, with the option of a separately fed cover, sheet perforating, hole punching, loop stitching, etc.

Product Features:

  • In-line connection with highest speed digital printers, or off-line operation from a high speed sheet feeder.
  • Individual sheet folding for optimum thick-book quality
  • Cover and insert sheet feeding
  • Unique and patented ISG cold glue binding available in place of wire stitching
  • Optional perfect binding available (models SB-4 and SB-5)
  • Bar code tracking of all sheets and auto-rejection of bad books, to ensure integrity
  • Three-knife trimming with optional centre-knife
  • Heavy duty construction for 24×7 operation
  • Easy-to-use touch-screen controls and comprehensive documentation in multi-languages
  • Complete range of book format sizes

Ibis Perfect Binder Series:

Ibis PB series sprint binder

The Sprint-binder PB-600C and PB-2000C systems are designed to be fed from a stream of sheets directly from a cut-sheet printer. Optional in-line folding can reduce the sheet format size to the required finished book size, if needed. The sheets then enter the stacker where they are collected on top of each other to form loose book blocks. These book blocks are then rotated to the vertical and pushed automatically into the clamp of the single-clamp Sprint-binder PB-600 or the 4-clamp Sprint-binder PB-2000. Optional in-line book trimming is available after binding.

The Sprint-binder PB-600C system produces high quality books up to 60mm thick at speeds up to 400 books/hour in-line with digital cut-sheet printer.

The Sprint-binder PB-2000JC system produces high quality books up to 40mm thick at speeds up to 1500 books/hour in-line with a high speed digital CF web printer.

The Sprint-binder PB-600S or PB-2000S systems are designed to be fed from loose book- blocks (sheet piles) directly from a sheet stacker system (which may be part of a web or cut-sheet print line). The sheets pile enter the SSF (sheet set feeder). These book blocks are then rotated to the vertical and pushed automatically into the clamp of the single-clamp Sprint-binder PB-600 or 4-clamp Sprint-binder PB-2000. An optional in-line book trimmer is available after binding.

The single clamp Sprint-binder PB-600S system produces high quality books up to 60mm thick at speeds up to 400 books/hour in-line with a low-medium speed digital CF web printer and sheet stacker.

The 4-clamp Sprint-binder PB-2000S system produces high quality books up to 50mm thick at speeds up to 1500 books/hour in-line with a high-speed digital CF web printer and sheet stacker.

Product Features:

  • High quality perfect binding
  • Fed directly from a digital printer, sheet pile feeder or roll unwinder
  • Optional in-line folding
  • Optional in-line book trimming

  1. Customer Changeable Developer is available allowing the operator to change the developer, helping to increase system availability for MICR or highlight color printing. Please contact your IBM sales representative for availability status.
  2. Maximum printing rate is the maximum number of pages of the indicated size and configuration that can be printed at the constant speed of paper movement shown for each printer. Rates for pages of different sizes and configuration can be calculated by dividing the form length into the printer speed. Actual printing rate will be less if the printer cannot reach this rate due to complexity or density of the data or the ability of the system to deliver data at this rate.
  3. Maximum usage is based on operating 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, at maximum printing rate with normal maintenance and operations activity. IBM does not recommend reaching this monthly maximum on consistent basis.

Printable Area

The printer can print to the horizontal page perforations and within 1⁄2-inch (12.7 mm) of either vertical (tractor hole) edge of the form. With tractorless paper, the printer can print to 1⁄2-inch (12.7 mm) from either edge of the form without print quality degradation.

Print quality may be degraded when printing near folding perforations, an internal perforation, or any cut in the form. To ensure correct operation and print quality, maintain the following distances:

  • From non-folding and internal perforations: 0.05-inch (1.27 mm)
  • From folding perforations: for text, OCR, and bar codes: 0.33-inch (8.5 mm); for images and solid-area fill: 0.05- inch (1.27 mm)
  • From binder holes and cuts: 0.1 inch-(2.54 mm).

Media Specifications

The Infoprint 4100-HD1/HD2 and 4100-PD1/PD2 printers accept the following media:

  • Media types:
    • Preprinted or blank fanfold forms, roll-feed paper, some labels
  • Media widths:
    • Tractor Feed
      • 8.3 to 19.5 inches (210 mm to 495 mm) with tractor feed
    • Tractorless Feed
      • 8.0 to 19.5 inches (203 mm to 495 mm) with tractorless feed
  • Media lengths:
    • 5.82 to 17 inches (148 mm to 432 mm) with tractor feed using the internal stacker
    • 5.82 to 54 inches (148 mm to 1372 mm) with the Signature Page feature and suitable post-processing equipment
  • Media weights:
    • The following paper weights are supported:
      • Duplex pinfeed for Infoprint 4100-HD1/HD2 supports paper weights between 12 pounds and 41 pounds (45 to 157.5 gsm) are supported. Post-Processing equipment is required for paper less than 16 pounds.
      • Dual simplex pinfeed for Infoprint 4100-HD1/HD2 supports paper weights between 12 and 42 pounds (45 and 157.5 gsm) are supported. Post processing equipment is required for paper weights less than 16 pounds. Dual simplex pinfeed or Infoprint

Attachments

The Infoprint 4100-HD1/HD2 printers support a maximum of two attachments. These attachments can be:

  • System/370 parallel channel
  • ESCON channel
  • Token Ring (TCP/IP)
  • Ethernet (TCP/IP)
  • FDDI (TCP/IP)
  • Gigabit Ethernet FICON

The two attachments may be the same (for example, 2 ESCON channels), or mixed (for example, 1 ESCON and 1 Token-Ring). The exception is that the printer can have only 1 TCP/IP attachment of any flavor. You cannot have 2 Token-Ring or 2 FDDI attachments, or a combination of 1 Token-Ring or 1 FDDI attachments.

When printing in duplex configuration, only one attachment can be active at a time. If both attachments are to the same system, or to a tightly-coupled system, and the attachments are of the same type (example, both are ESCON or both are parallel channel), then switching between the two attachments can be performed dynamically by the host system. If the attachments or host differ, or the hosts are not tightly-coupled, then the switch must be performed manually by the operator. The printer must be disabled from the current system and attachment before it can be enabled to the other attachment.
